Week 7 5/28-6/3/17

We spent a fun afternoon with our family in Bear lake on Saturday, and then Sunday morning we went to Church together--all 26 of us.  It is kind of nice the way they do church on holiday weekends in Bear Lake.  They have just a Sacrament meeting at 9:00 and 11:00, and then another one at 1:00, with a full block of meetings.  The 9:00 meeting overflowed into almost every room in the building.  Two of our kids, Shay and Sarah, and their families made it into the gym.  The rest of us, Travis, Ryan, and Jill and their families, were in the Relief Society room, with a TV.  Some of the rooms only had sound, so we were lucky.  They kept announcing that they needed more Deacons to pass the sacrament.  I think they ended up needing about 24--which included three of our grandsons.

After Church, we loaded up with Travis' and Ryan's families and went back to DL&L.  The other three kids came last year and toured our mission.  We introduced all of them to some of the missionaries, showed them around Missionary Village, and then got in two of the side-by-sides and headed down to staging where the handcarts are waiting for the trekkers.  We took them on a little "handcart picnic" to have lunch out on one of the trails.  The kids did good pulling the handcart.  They decided that after about a mile they had gone far enough.

"For some must push and some must pull, As we go marching up the hill; So merrily on our way we go Until we reach the Valley-o."

There are always those adults who straggle behind!  Actually, Ryan had a really bad toe and he was just trying to make it as far as he could.  Shannon and Travis are keeping him company.  Chaz was also walking with a healing fractured leg, so Elder (Grandpa) Howard is behind in the side-by-side to pick up any casualties.

The kids found a baby horned toad as they were trekking.  This is the first time we have seen one on the Ranch.  He was so cute!

We had a fun lunch sitting under the shade made with a blanket and the handcart.

Some sat in the side-by-side to eat their lunch.  Then we all headed the mile back to staging where we dropped off the handcart and all loaded into a couple of the side-by-sides and rode part of another trail, where we ended up back at Missionary Village.

After our ride, we got out the hatchets that Sarah & Ryan gave Elder (Grandpa) Howard for Christmas last year.  They all did pretty good, but I think Travis showed them all how to do it.

Ryan, Harper, Ryley, Wesley, Lori, and Chaz.  What a fun time we had!

Well, when you leave home for five days, the other missionaries like to show their love to you in some way!  Maybe it is not such a good idea to leave your door unlocked when you leave.

Sister Peart confessed on Facebook and even named her co-harts:  Sisters Ekins, Barton, and Call!  They did a really good job!  We loved it!

A couple of days later we retaliated by giving each of the conspirators a little gift of rolled up, recycled tp, with little surprises in them (sweet surprises) to use for the next 9 weeks on their cowgirl stops during trek!  What crazy missionaries we work with.  We truly love them!
